The slick New York rock DJs push themselves in a more sophisticated direction on LP3.
This time around, the duo mixes smooth, decorative rhythms and crisper effects into their trademark tight spin, giving the album a feel that's built more for the home than the club.
The opening track, "Shiller", opens the album in this style as it slowly builds with light digital effects and even acoustic guitar into a beat-less swirl of electrics and electronics. Other fresh moves include the Latin-esque percussion of "Mi Viejo" and "Miranda", the house gallop of "Shempi" and the chilled piano on "Bruleé" and are examples LP3 being more focused and laid-back than before.
A calmer sense of artistry directs LP3 in an intriguing new direction. It has "private performance" written all over it.
