In 2011, building on the Rothbury Festival of 2008 & 2009 (QRO photos of Rothbury ’09), Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, MI began the jam-electronic Electric Forest Festival. In 2017, the festival is expanding to two four-day weekends, Thursday-Sunday, June 22nd-25th & June 29th-July 2nd:

The String Cheese Incident, 7:15 PM – 11:45 PM Colorado’s String Cheese Incident (QRO photos at a festival) had been one of the jam bands hardest working the road circuit, combining bluegrass and a whole host of other sounds. But after the 2007 departure of guitarist Bill Nershi following that summer’s tour, the band went into hiatus as they worked on their various solo projects. Only a couple of years later the group reunited for sporadic shows and touring (QRO photos). Now they come back to Rothbury behind this year’s Believe. The String Cheese Incident (QRO photos at a festival) have played every year of Electric Forest – and for ’17, they play three sets on Friday, and “Shebang” on Saturday (see below)! |

Preservation Hall Jazz Band, 4:00 PM – 5:15 PM New Orleans’ Preservation Hall has been preserving the iconic city’s jazz tradition not just in the Big Easy but also around the world thanks to the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (QRO photos), who having been bringing Dixieland to other lands since the founding of the hall back in the sixties. They play three times at their third straight year of Electric Forest. |
