Summetime in The Big Apple has always been special. The need for bodies to fight The Civil War led to the infamous 1863 New York Draft Riots. The Son of Sam, a city-wide blackout, CBGB's, and a Yankees run at the pennant gave us 1977's 'Summer of Sam'. And the summer of 2001 will forever be that pre-9/11 idyll. But more importantly, summer in New York City means lots and lots of free outdoor concerts, including The Village Voice's annual Siren Music Festival on Coney Island.
