HARD Haunted Mansion 2011 Preview

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28TH

Fatboy Slim

Though electronic dance music has been around for almost as long as electricity has, Quentin Lee Cook – a.k.a. Fatboy Slim (and more recently as Brighton Port Authority) – is still something of a pioneer, despite only adopting the moniker & breaking out in the late nineties, paving the way for today’s British DJ-producers to be known for their music, their production, and more.

Rusko

Christopher ‘Rusko’ Mercer has brought an upbeat sound to today’s flourishing new dubstep scene, and worked with the likes of M.I.A. (QRO photos from HARD NYC), Rihanna, and even Britney Spears.

Laidback Luke

Dutch DJ (though he was born in Manila) first became known for his graffiti work, before moving to the turntables, so expect visuals aplenty with your beats.

Rusko

2manydjs

Brothers David & Stephen Dewaele of Soulwax (see below) do the brotherly thing on night one as side-project 2manydjs.

Tiga

Not another European but a Canadian, Tiga James Sontag (who also needs no from-nowhere pseudonym) is a Juno Award-winning dance musician.

Ladiback Luke

Zeds Dead

Another Canadian outfit, this time a duo, is DC & Hooks, who make up the genre-defying Zeds Dead.

Switch

While he’s best known for his work with ladies like M.I.A. (QRO photos) & Santigold (QRO photos), or being one-half of Major Lazer (see below), Switch (QRO photos) can stand on his own as well.

Soulwax

Amid the many solo and duo acts of HARD Haunted Mansion comes full-on electronic band Soulwax from Ghent in Belgium, heading strong into their third decade (and on a HARD-sponsored tour).

Skrillex

Originally frontman for L.A. post-hardcore outfit From First to Last, Sonny Moore – a.k.a. Skrillex (QRO photos) – has since reinvented himself as an electro-house/dubstep DJ.

Zeds Dead

Major Lazer

The collaboration between DJ/producers Diplo (QRO photos) and Switch (see above) made a serious breakthrough in 2009 as Major Lazer (QRO photos at a festival), with Guns Don’t Kill People…  Lazers Do, and followed it up last year with tour EP Lazers Never Die.

Skream + Benga

Two of dubstep’s first producers, Skream & Benga (QRO photos), team up again for HARD (QRO photos at HARD NYC).

Switch

Fake Blood

Theo Keating’s stretched out from his duo work with Simon William Lord in The Black Ghosts, to his own solo house material as Fake Blood.

Caspa

After a promising basketball career was cut short by injury, Gary McCann – a.k.a. Caspa – turned to music, and he found himself in the west London dubstep scene.

SBTRKT

12th Planet

John Dadzie is a Los Angeles dubstep producer and DJ that’s better known as 12th Planet.

DJ Destructo (QRO photos) is a serious HARD favorite (QRO photos at HARD NYC).
