Cali electro indie-pop outfit The Neighbourhood (QRO live review) debuted already on the majors after hit YouTube single “Sweater Weather” (QRO review), with last year’s I Love You on Columbia, and have been winning fans (QRO photos at a festival) even outside of their ‘hood (QRO photos abroad), like Live at Leeds last year.

20:00 – John J Presley

Full of grit, soul, and experience, John J Presley (QRO photos at a festival) is the quintessential blues-man.  Not only that but also strolling, distorted, and slide guitars are all dispersed throughout his songs. He also easily infuses the incantatory element of the blues with the strolling simplicity of folk.

22:30 – ¡Forward, Russia!

Lanterns On the Lake (QRO photos in Leeds) put a shoegaze spin on lo-fi on this year’s Until the Colours Run (QRO review).

Leeds’ own I Like Trains come home (QRO live review in England), to play Live at Leeds once more (QRO photos at Live at Leeds ’12)!  The once-and-future iLIKETRAiNS (QRO photos at a festival) bring the past to the future, as their epic post-rock details everything from failed polar expeditions and chess geniuses to, yes, trains.  The group (QRO photos abroad) rolls into Live at Leeds behind 2012’s The Shallows (QRO review).

¡Forward, Russia!Leeds’ ¡Forward, Russia! may have only lasted a few years in the prior decade, but they made an impression, reuniting last year at Brudenell Social Club (see above) and kept it going (unfortunately their name isn’t as ironic anymore…).

Leeds University Refectory, University Road
16:00 – Ezra Furman
1Wild Cub7:00 – Sivu
18:00 – Wild Cub
19:00 – Josh Record
20:00 – Los Campesinos!
21:30 – The Sunshine Underground
23:00 – Albert Hammond, Jr.

Burned out on life in the hustle & bustle of Brooklyn, Keegan DeWitt turned down a promotion and moved to Nashville, where he teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Bullock as Wild Cub (QRO photos at a festival), and put out debut full-length Youth in January.

Los Campesinos!Los Campesinos! might just be QRO’s favorite band today (QRO spotlight on).  From catching their second-ever U.S. show (QRO review) to today’s bigger shows (QRO live review), from debut EP Sticking Fingers Into Sockets (QRO review) to last year’s No Blues (QRO review), we’ve been deeply in love with the Cardiff collective (QRO live review).  We’ve interviewed nearly every member of the seven-to-eight person outfit, from lead singer Gareth Campesinos! (QRO interview) to sister & singer Kim (QRO interview), guitarists Neil (QRO interview) & Tom (QRO interview), and new drummer Jason (QRO interview) – even former singer Aleks (QRO interview – a favorite among favorites – QRO Tribute to Aleks Campesinos!), former bassist Ellen (QRO interview), and former drummer Ollie (QRO interview).

Oh, and LC! are also one of the best live bands out there (QRO live review), thanks to electric songs (QRO live review) like classics “We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives” (QRO video), “You! Me! Dancing!” (QRO video), and “My Year In Lists” (QRO video) to “International Tweexcore Underground” (QRO video), “Miserabilia” (QRO video), “Romance Is Boring” (QRO video), and “The Sea Is a Good Place To Think About the Future” (QRO video), to newer ones like “By Your Hand” (QRO video), “Baby I Got the Death Rattle” (QRO video), and newest “Avocado, Baby”.  They play Live at Leeds for a second time (QRO photos at Live at Leeds ‘12). We need more Los Campesinos! (QRO photos) – it’s never enough! (QRO photos at a U.K. festival)

You probably still know Albert Hammond, Jr. from his day job as guitarist for this century/millennium’s first hit alt-rock band, The Strokes (QRO album review), but he’s also forged his own successful solo career, most recently last July’s AHJ EP.

Leeds University Stylus, Lifton Pl.

19:00 – Cheatahs
20:00 – Superfood
21:15 – Yuck
22:30 – The Hold Steady

Cheatahs taught the old dog of fuzzy rock some new tricks on their self-titled debut (QRO review) back in March.

YuckA young band (QRO photos at a festival in Leeds) on the upswing in terms of hype, but one that deserves it, is Great Britain’s Yuck (QRO live review), who have the kind of skilled-yet-accessible punk (QRO photos at a festival) that’s worked so well for Sonic Youth (QRO live review) & Dinosaur Jr. (QRO live review).

Brooklyn’s The Hold Steady (QRO photos at a festival) have reached serious heights with their classic rock and singer/guitarist Craig Finn’s talk-sing storytelling – even got an appearance on The Colbert Report!  They’re also incredibly overrated, but certainly have fun outdoors (QRO live review outdoors).  They come to Live at Leeds behind their sixth full-length, March’s Teeth Dreams.

19:30 – Crocodiles
19:30 – Dum Dum Girls

One of the multitude of bands that garage ‘it girl’ Frankie Rose played drums in before fronting her own band (QRO photos), the Dum Dum Girls (QRO photos at a festival) combine garage, girl-group, and New Wave for a sound (QRO photos) that does stand out from the pack (QRO photos) – especially live (QRO live review) & in costume (QRO photos at a festival), or on this year’s Too True (QRO review).

NeurosisThe Cockpit, Swinegate

The eighties was just the era that gave us post-punk – it also gave us post-metal like Neurosis, who are coming up on thirty years of dark existence.

KodalineO2 Academy Leeds, 55 Cookridge St.
19:00 – Kodaline

While In a Perfect World (QRO review) might technically be the first full-length for Dublin folk-rockers Kodaline (QRO photos), fans of their music have been rocking along to them for years by now.
