I had the distinct pleasure of attending the record release for Daniel Knox’s new full-length Evryman For Himself at the Hideout in Chicago. A gruff-looking bearded gentleman with a quizzical look and a dry, sometimes absurdist, sense of humor. He sat behind a keyboard in a darkened room and worked wonders of magic and enchantment, milking his deep vibrato in old-school singer/songwriter fashion. He’s on tour now promoting the album, accompanied by a fantastic backing band that steeps you in alt-Americana textures and gestures. They even had one of those saw-violins!

Visit his Bandcamp (Evryman is not yet up – so you’ll have to see a live show), Book the Face, follow on Twitter, and get the real scoop at his own site . This Chicago-native is a musical treasure, a little sad, a little sweet, always memorable.
