LA-based artist David Shane Smith shows a light touch on his 3-song EP Shampoo. Deft, whimsical, electro rock meditations. Music for mowing your lawn to in the 22nd Century.
Title track "Shampoo" plays it pretty straight. But "Actor" opens up a big can of art-rock whoopass, located somewhere between late Scott Walker, Sean Nicolas Savage, and spoken word. "Beach" brings it on back home with a slow tempo pop oddity: think Mutations era Beck. Leisurely, regal, stately layers of sound, occupying strange habitats along the digital-analog spectrum.
