Diarrhea Planet (yes, that’s their name) is a great pop/punk/whatever band from Nashville, with a full album called Loose Jewels coming out on Infinity Cat Records soon. Tight sounds: shades of Black Flag, Bad Religion — old skool legends jimmied up with some fresh spunk.

That being said, I probably would not have posted on them if it wasn’t for the first 40 seconds or so of “Fauser.” Not really a pop-punk guy — the whole genre worries me…it seems like a slippery slope towards Eve 6 and Blink 182 and Sum 42 and all those bands with digits in their name. But the luscious, hazey, gazey introduction to “Fauser” lets you know there is more cooking in the oven than a few dozen Top 40 cookie-cut ditties. We’ve got some raw rock textures in the mix, rich textures, that are more than just an excuse to group-shout about beer and whatever. Good stuff.

“Orange Girls” is also streaming below — a more straightforward jam that comes and goes in 1:22. Hey, that’s SOP for punk. Don’t let a melody overstay its welcome. Diarrhea Planet (yes, they are still named Diarrhea Planet) keeps it short and sweet.

Go stalk DP (which also stands for “double penetration”) at their Blogspot & Twitter & Facebook & pick up the Loose Jewels vinyl at Infinity Cat Records, home of tons of kickass acts like Natural Child y so much mas.
