Land of Talk – “Inner Lover” & “This Time”

Land of Talk - Inner Lover & This TimeQRO has loved Land of Talk (QRO spotlight on) for a decade now, from back when Elizabeth Powell (QRO interview) was first starting with debut EP, Applause Cheer Boo Hiss (QRO review).  Unfortunately, the artist we said was going to be big (QRO live review) was derailed by health issues with her vocal chords, and she seemed to be ‘out of the game’.

But last year, Powell returned for some shows (QRO live review), and this year comes her new album, Life After Youth on Saddle Creek Records.  Her touching, intimate alt-styles have only heightened as she takes on getting older (something QRO is feeling itself…).  She’s already released two singles, the more synth-led sadness to “Inner Lover” and the more straight-up indie-rock loss of “This Time” (written & performed with another great alt-songstress, Sharon Van Etten).
