I saw Natural Child in Chicago recently, sharing a bill with Hunx & his Punx — fantastic show (free to boot, thanks to boozey grandpa Sailor Jerry). Rollicking mix of punk, garage, Nashville-meets-San Francisco-type mayhem. At the end, I made my way back to the merch table and picked up Natural Child’s 1971. It’s like a whole album full of Rolling Stones in their "Honkey Tonk Woman" mode. Bascially, just awesome nouveau hoe down jamz.

Natural Child combines chops with a wicked sense of humor. Witness: "White People," which is a hammed-up self-inspection of the caucasian rock ‘n’ country pespective. In fact, the entire band has the feel of an inside joke, but it’s an endearing inside joke.

"Chris’ Blues" hits on a Ramones-style burner; "Women C’mon" breaks it down to the Delta blues essentials; and we’ve got "Hard Workin’ Man" strreaming below — it’s a bad ass lick that won’t be denied.

Go stalk Natural Child at their blog & Twitter & Facebook & buy 1971 at Infinity Cat Records. Cheers!
