A while back I wrote up the Go Primal EP by Atlanta’s Nomen Novum. The EP had the strange & unusual quality of being both very experimental and very listenable. Usually it’s one or the other. But the layers of textured aural collage & found sounds were so seductively and lusciously layered, that, despite the oddball compositions, you felt like you were listening to a very approachable piece of art pop.
Nomen Novum are back with a full length titled If You Look For It, It’s There. A very Dave Eggers kind of title. Should we give it an acronym now? IYLFIIT. That’s about as awkwardly satisfying as AHBWOSG.
Music-wise, NN has turned up the pop factor by about 1,000x. These songs sound like real pop numbers, with heavy electro-pop 80s influence. Think DEVO-meets-Animal Collective, with a wry sense of humor here and there (check the Beck-esque Midnite Vulture rap on "I Tore Your Wall Down").
Stream a pair of tracks below & head to their site & Bandcamp to download & say hi on Tweeeter & Tumblr & Fbook. Cheers!
