Until I hear something that demonstrates otherwise, I’m gonna go ahead & think of the Movie Star imprint as a sort of Ariel Pink Fan Club. The artists on board have an effervescent, amorphous pop sensuality a la His Holy Meltdown, and that suits me just fine. Paula is another stellar addition to the club with his latest release Relaxed Fit.
Expect bubbling beats, neon rhythms, and wobbly streams of synth undergirding lyrical essays into underworlds of desire & electric dysentery. Two tracks are streaming below: the bouncy "Blonde" & "Lover Boy." Dig on the vid for the latter, a Trashhumper-meets-Taxi Driver approach to a night out in nameless urban squalor. Que sabor!
