Back when I lived in the Pioneer Valley (that’s where Kim & Thurston live(d) — maybe they’ll find separate residences now, post-split?) I used to hear a lot of these types of bands: fly-by-night, 4-track indie projects that would pull together for one magical session of noise & pop, then disappear forever. Lost Daniel Johnston stuff. Sentridoh stuff. That’s speedy ortiz — seems like one of those outfits you’ll never hear another peep from after the release of the death of speedy ortiz.

That’s cool though — speedy ortiz is a side project of Sadie (from Quilty), so you can just check out her regular band if you want more of that noise-pop flavor. As for the album, it was written and self-recorded during the dog days of summer 2011. It’s got that feel: hazy, hot vibrations that beg for the cool sweat of a frosty beer. Or lemonade. Or what-the-fuck-ever.

Download the whole death of speedy ortiz at Bandcamp & find Quilty on Fuzzbook & Twatter & their own site & enjoy!
