Just bought the new Thurston Moore vinyl Demolished Thoughts, a beautiful solo record by the the Sonic Youth guitarist, produced by Beck. But really, it’s unfair to construe the birth of the record as a standard artist/producer encounter. These are two great artists melding minds with phenomenal results that can’t be reduced to the authorial intent of either party. "Mina Loy" has the stripped-down forwardness of a classic Moore acoustic piece, combined with Beck’s production that pushes the piece over the hump into a new level of eery folk funk.
This is the best solo work ever set to record by Thurston Moore, a must-have for fans of the artist and Sonic Youth – even for fans of Beck. Head to your local records store, or go online to pick it up via Matador Records. I give it 10 out of 10 bananas!
