Brendan Canning leads Canada's favorite collective into calmer territory on their second album in the Presents: series. On Something For All of Us..., this co-founder gets into a deeper groove on his turn at the helm of the Scene.  Heady jazz jams, country disco, and '60s rock ballads are just some of the elements that get the golden treatment from more than a handful of Canada's talent pool.

Most of Something For All of Us... is built on a velvety mix that has neatly formed the group's foundation for years.  Acoustic shuffles glossed by bedroom idealism have a consistently fresh-out-the-dryer feel that has become Broken Social Scene's trademark.  Tracks such as candlelight-smooth "Chameleon" and "Antique Bull", along with the breathy gallop of "Hit The Wall" provide the most continuity in their catalog while the '90s alt- sounds on the title track and the thumping funk of "Love Is New" are the sharpest moments of the album.

Thanks to the guidance of Canning, this particular incarnation of the Toronto-based Presents: an another enticing look into what the band was founded on while guiding it in a new direction.  It's forward- and, in a certain way, backward-thinking at the same time, highlighted - most of all - by the sheer complexity that the band thrives on.
