Delta Spirit : Into the Wide

On their 2012 self-titled fourth record (QRO review), Delta Spirit made a serious name for themselves in recorded output, to go with their raucous live shows. Could they live up to being one of the best young alt-country bands out there today with follow-up Into the Wide? Yes, they could & did.

Into the Wide is largely a more world-wise & world-weary record, from opener “Push It” to slow, sad goodbye “The Wreck” – the album’s title track provides an earlier slow goodbye right in its middle, plus there’s a glowing goodbye in “Patriarch”. Second & third songs “From Now On” and “Live On” provide a driving and powerful one-two, but this more a goodbye than a hello. And most of all, it is a moving collection of songs.

And that is what you were expecting/hoping from a new Delta Spirit record. Maybe it couldn’t be quite as impactful as Delta Spirit, if only because you had higher expectations, but consider them filled.
