New Idea Society : Quiet Prism EP In 2008, the New Idea Society was involved in an accident on Germany’s famed Autobahn, with singer/guitarist/songwriter Mike Law severely injured and unable to play guitar.  While recuperating in Brooklyn, he wrote some synthesizer-based songs, and two of those pieces, plus two with guitar & one that’s brand-new, make up Quiet Prism EP – and this helps explain why, despite being only five tracks, there’s a lot of Ideas in here.

Quiet Prism is roughly a combination of up-emo work done relatively well for the genre in opener/new track "Autumn You", and synth progression of the following "Iradell".  But while both styles are limited on their own, together they become more than the some of their parts in "They Won’t Find Us" and closer "Twilight, Dusk, and Night", the former catchy, the latter coming out of the darkness of the piece in between, "Magic Key", a gothic echo that throws another genre in there for good measure.

The unusual circumstances behind Quiet Prism‘s creation gave birth to an EP far more diverse than five tracks would indicate.  None of the five perfect their sounds, though none let them down, and combine into something more.
