Mauro Remiddi’s Porcelain Raft has had a slow time coming. The Italian native began playing in projects around his home country & Europe, before moving to Off-Broadway and New York City. 2012 debut as Porcelain Raft, Strange Weekend, came out of his basement. Now on his third record, Microclimate, Remiddi brings a soft synth expanse.
Admittedly, Microclimate doesn’t quite start out that way, as opener “The Earth Before Us” is a kind of orchestral alt-country, while another early number, “Big Sur”, has twang to its expanse. But this is a dream-pop, chillwave kind of album, with soft glows (“Rolling Over”), soft atmospheres (“Rising”), carrying orchestra beauty (“The Poets Were Right”), and such.
Microclimate doesn’t bowl one over, but rather lulls like good dreams should.
