2016

Puro Instinct : AutodramaPuro Instinct burst on to the scene with Headbangers in Ecstasy in 2011, an amazing combination of songwriting vocals and guitar skill. At the time of the first record, the two-piece sister act were fifteen and nineteen respectively, but far beyond in songwriting and just sheer skill and talent for putting pop and rock together. The follow up, Autodrama, is not perfect, but still good.

Autodrama starts out with some interesting lines in the drums and guitar, but does not quite rely on what they do best, songwriting. What it may do the best for their second release though is maintain a defiance against certain material in alternative trends, with their unique style, and not give in to the second album pop experimentation trend that makes more money. The album certainly took sweet time to be released, which is good, as far too many records are rushed.

To the songs, where the lyrics are impressive in some, and each piece is energetic enough, some of these new ones, ”Panarchy”, “”Peccavi”, Tell Me”, and “End of An Era” fail to re-kindle or re-make the success songs like “Love Goon”, “Stilyagi”, “Escape Forever”, and “Silky Eyes” did in songwriting. Love zombies style lyrics aside, “Autodrama” and “End of an Era”, even “Scorpio Rising”, are mostly interesting in the energy development and guitar.

However, overall the album is both shining and overdone. Headbangers in Ecstasy was a tough act to follow, and this does well enough, just not as well as they are capable of in the variety of songwriting and guitar. Still a gem in music of today, which has a very small threshold of variety in indie music. Great vocals with perfect pop-rock catches in the instrument sounds make Puro Instinct’s Autodrama one of the best indie records this year.
