Pyyramids : Human Beings EP OK Go (QRO live review) are still best known for their viral music videos, and the most recognizable face in the videos is the glasses-wearing bearded bassist Tim Nordwind.  But Nordwind goes in a quite different direction with singer Drea Smith (formerly of He Say She Say) as Pyyramids on debut Human Beings EP.

Where OK Go has always been firmly on the mainstream side of the indie-pop spectrum, Pyyramids goes spooky and diva-deep with Nordwind’s instrumentation & Smith’s voice.  There’s sadness to Smith’s jazz-diva on "Don’t Go", but the title track & "Animal" go more ‘troniced-out in the beat, and opener "That Ain’t Right" mixes a haunting verse with dance-expressive chorus.

Human Beings EP is an interesting introduction (save for the unnecessary DMK remix of "Human Beings" to end it), and sounds fuller and more diverse than most debut EPs, especially from side-projects.  Here’s hoping for more than just y’s from Pyyramids.
