Solvey – Solvey

Jessica of Zambri goes solo as Solvey....
Solvey : Solvey
7.8 Killer Wail
2015

Solvey : SolveyJessica Zambri came to music as one-half of sister duo Zambri (QRO album review), but with/as Solvey she goes solo. Staying in the big tent of electronica, Jessica leans away from the dance of Zambri and towards distant loss.

Solvey opens with its own title track, effective synth loss that well sets stage for the rest of the record. Sometimes Jessica gives more distance to her sound, such as with the echoing “In Time” or restrained & reverberating “From Here”, but there are also pieces that get up close. Back-to-back closers “Til the Sun” and “Wave” slowly slide and drive into you, while “I Know I Know” is both enchanting and moving.

Hopefully Zambri is just on a hiatus (it’s not like Jessica can break up with her sister Cristi Jo), but Solvey nicely has both shades of what made the ladies Zambri great, while also being Jessica’s own thing.
