White Reaper : The World's Best American BandWhite Reaper is one of those bands that know what music is about, but are too obscure to hit a money vein, and this is more than a compliment. It means they seemingly take pride in making bold, arena worthy music of any kind, much like The Pixies, and these bands still exist today, bands such as Wand, Dinosaur Jr, and Art Brut.

The World’s Best American Band starts in exactly that mold with crowd noises and a youthful energy bringing forth their four-chord romp. Then, “Judy Finch’ is raucous punk anger and joy as well. “Last Silver Cross” and “Tell Me” all play similarly interesting rock. “Eagle Beach” shows some production values, but is maybe a bit too cheesy, still it does some summer sounding thing well. “Daisies”, one of the latter songs is even better, with a more mature melody, almost a pop one. Though maturity was a bit of a stretch for their previous albums, even as psychedelic as White Reaper were then.

The World’s Best American Band ends with “Another Day”, which is a reasonable closer with a little more mellow ‘90s rock. This album can be summed up exactly that way: a mellow, but bold blend of rock ‘n’ roll. Even though perhaps not as thoroughly good as the previous LP (QRO review) and EP, it is still a really worthwhile release.
