Northside 2012 : Day Four Recap

For the fourth year running, L Magazine‘s Northside Festival came to venues in Williamsburg & Greenpoint areas of Brooklyn.  Thursday-to-Sunday, June 14th to 17th, the hippest parts of Brooklyn played host to showcases and acts from Brooklyn and beyond.

Unlike most multi-venue ‘industry fests’, Northside goes to Sunday, but unfortunately it was a slow final day, without daytime events and less happening at night.

Again, the Northside schedule was wrong – I arrived thinking that I might catch the end of YAWN, but instead, they were just starting.  Decent, but not amazing, a little tropical, a little psych, a little hippie.

The band once, and perhaps still called ‘Starfucker’ (also once went by ‘Pyramids’), STRFKR‘s electro-dance/rock has proven popular.  The lighting for the show at the not-normally-a-venue Warsaw (QRO venue review) was limited to red and green pinpoints, which gave the whole show an ‘eighties prom’ type of feel (if also really hard to see, let along photograph…).  Still, they had exited fans cheering & dancing along.

Unfortunately missed:

-Future of the Left (QRO album review) @ Europa (QRO venue review), 10:00 PM – 11:00 PM.

-Violens (QRO live review) @ Public Assembly (QRO venue review), 10:30 PM – 11:30 PM.

-Crystal Stilts (QRO live review) @ Glasslands (QRO venue review), 12:00 AM – 1:00 AM.  Once upon a time, Crystal Stilts were the hot Brooklyn band and even special guest at the first Northside (QRO recap).  Not anymore…
