OURS : Live
OURS

After being basically dormant for the past few years, OURS took to the road again and promptly displayed why they have been missed.  Chosen by the legendary Peter Murphy to open his U.S. tour (QRO photos), OURS came out swinging at the Portland, OR show on August 9th at Star Theater.  Though their set was short (eight songs), it was impactful.  "Willing" from their 2008 Jimmy Gneccoalbum Mercy (Dancing For The Death Of An Imaginary Enemy) opened the set and OURS founder and vocalist Jimmy Gnecco was in fine voice throughout while the band (Static – Guitar, April – Piano, Chris Goodlof – Bass, Mickey Fox – Drums) were powerful accompanying him.  "Miseryhead" from Distorted Lullabies (2001) followed with its lurching rhythms.  The audience seemed to be equally there to see OURS as well a Murphy.  For many OURS fans, it has been years since the band has been in Portland (though Gnecco did come through on a solo tour).

Three unreleased songs were played and thanks to the internet, they were already familiar due to fans posting them on YouTube ("Sing For Me," "Devil," and "Get ‘Em Out").  "Sing For Me" was especially well received and could easily be a future single.  Of the three albums OURS have released, it is worth noting that they didn’t play any tracks from 2002’s Precious.  "Fallen Jimmy GneccoSouls" closed things out on a high note with another of Gnecco’s blistering screams and the final line "These are the fallen souls."

OURS are in the midst of a PledgeMusic campaign for their next album.  As they proved tonight, they are a dynamic band worthy of support.  And Gnecco was very generous with his time after the show, not only meeting with those from the band’s fan club but also with other fans that just wanted to say hello.  After the Peter Murphy tour, OURS start a short headlining tour through the end of August.
