Pigeon John

Opening for DJ Shadow (QRO photos) is not a beginner’s job.  Shadow’s crowd at Irving Plaza (QRO venue review) on Monday, November 15th was composed of Gen-Xers who Pigeon Johnare more Pigeon Janescomfortable with the likes of Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and such rather than Lil’ Wayne or newcomer Wiz Khalifa (QRO photos).  For this reason, California-based Pigeon John and his two-girl crew was a great choice.  His repertoire varied between ballads and lighter tunes from his latest album Dragon Slayer and earlier, darker material.

One thing is sure, even if he can trick you with a look as sharp as John Legend, he’s a "gangsta fo’ real."
