Shakespears Sister

Siobhan FaheySiobhan Fahey, mostly remembered for her role as the wicked temptress in the music video "Stay" back in the ‘90s, has now created a new style.  The lyrics are still very melancholic, yet with regards to the performance and instrumental aspect, the atmosphere is very upbeat.  She started her return on Friday, April 16th at Liverpool’s O2 Academy.

Siobhan FaheyO2 Academy is a small venue with brick red walls, very ambient and retro.  Blue, yellow, green lights seemed to overpower the stage as Fahey made an entrance with the other band members.  As she entered, she still held that fresh alluring fantastical and gothic look.  The audience seemed captivated by her tightly fitted silver outfit.

Immediately, the crowd begin to shout out comments towards Fahey; even though the venue was in Liverpool there was a broad Yorkshire man repeatedly shouting, "It’s o.k. Siobhan, you don’t need t’other one [meaning ex-bandmate Marcella Detroit].  I love ya."  Siobhan gave off a smile and continued the show.

Shakespears guitaristVisually, the stage looked surreal, rather like a scene from The Man Who Fell To Earth with the all-in-one space suit look.  The guitarist to the Shakespears Sistersleft wore distinctive large sunglasses, his most dominant attire being a black helmet and a very flamboyant leopard skin guitar strap.  Visually it was slightly reminiscent of Dennis Hopper’s character in Easy Rider.

Fahey began the set with "Heroine"; the room is filled with haunting high pitched backing vocals.  Next came "Goodbye Cruel World".  The audience was hysterically dancing and singing along.  "You’re History" was a definite crowd pleaser; another highlight was "I Don’t Care If You Talk About Me".

As the set finished, the crowd continuously screamed for more, Siobhan returned and performed "Really Saying Something", which was much appreciated.
