The Never : Live

<img src="http://www.qromag.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/theneverlive.jpg" alt=" " />Opening for Annuals and Manchester Orchestra on their current tour, North Carolinians The Never turned heads at Great Scott in Boston as the next edition...

With a lush, operatic rock sound that filled the space wonderfully, the five performers on stage raised some eyebrows.

Touring after the release of their storybook album, Antarctica the three core members of Noah Smith, Joah Tunnell, and Jonny Tunnell were flanked by another guitar and a cello that massaged their organic, jazz-esque catalog.  They played a fat handful of new tracks that will be on their next album, and a couple of highlights from Antarctica

"Cavity" swung with true power-pop fervor, while "The Witch" was as beautifully complex as it is on the album.  New tracks "Butterfly", "Vampire", and "Lately" each took their artsy, fireside-story sound in a unique direction, and laid the groundwork for far more development.

Gracefully squeezing a million movements into such a short set, The Never showed that their material comes across even better with their slick live skills.   And it looks to be only the tip of the iceberg.
