Saint Vitus Bar is located at 1120 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, between Clay and Box Street, blocks from the Pulaski Bridge, and north of the old Brooklyn Bazaar. It opened in April 2011.

Distinctly unassuming on the outside, just a black wall on the street with two doors, one under a red light that is the general entrance. There is then a hallway halfway down the space to the door person, with entrance to bar on right. Inside, the bar is immediately across from the entrance, extending back towards the street with merch table at the back. The stage is to the left upon entering, a simple black box with limited rise.

Best known for being a metal-themed bar, Saint Vitus does indeed host a lot of metal/hard rock shows, but not exclusively, and the metal décor is not heavy-handed. A bit reminiscent of Mercury Lounge or other small music venues that there used to be in the Lower East Side and Williamsburg, without much in the way of frills, but a bit more open (including a higher ceiling) and solid sound system. The drink prices also are relatively cheaper, at least compared with bigger music venues, as the place serves as a regular bar as well (with a strong drink selection). Yes, off the beaten path, but that’s how it has to be in today’s New York City for a small music venue-cum-dive bar, and does what it does well.
