The Westway

Late Cambrian

The Westway closed on July 1st, 2015.

The Westway is located on 75 Clarkson Street, Manhattan, between Washington Street and West Street, just off the Hudson River, in the Meatpacking District.

Basically a (semi-)converted strip club (right near an actual strip club), The Westway randomly includes a ‘stripper aisle’ in the middle of the main area (though the poles have been removed). All the walls are painted black, the lighting is poor even for that, and sound isn’t special. It’s so low-rent that the tiny bathrooms don’t even have coat-hooks on the inside of the doors. This would all be acceptable if it were a low-cost or DIY place, but the drinks are rather ridiculously expensive, seven dollars for a regular can of Bud Light!

The Westway is a combination of a dance nightclub and DIV venue, with the worst of both worlds. It might be fine if you want to go out dancing a Meatpacking nightclub, but it also might be the worst music venue in New York City.
