Seemingly overnight, Alvvays went from another sweet new indie band from Canada to an alt-hit, first in the U.K., and now America. The band’s 2014 self-titled debut saw them rocket up the alternative music food chain – and now comes follow-up Antisocialities. While possibly not quite worthy of that quick acclaim, it is a lovely album.
Start-to-finish, Antisocialites is a fuzzy slice of sunny garage, like was so popular years ago and now might be making a comeback. Opener “In Undertow” sets the tone with its sweet indie-rock. Even sadder pieces like closer “Forget About Life” or kiss-off “Not My Baby” still glow.
Antisocialities isn’t revelatory – indeed, it really does sound like the sunny garage that was a Brooklyn hit just a decade ago. But it is easy to love.
