London Calling 2012 Preview

To sum up the importance of the event, some of the bands or solo artists that played there are: God Machine, Dodgy, Blur, Slowdive, Ash, Placebo, Beth Orton, Super Furry Animals, Hefner, Sophia, Doves, Urusei Yatsura, I Am Kloot, British Sea Power, Editors, Metronomy, Malcolm Middleton, Joy Formidable, Twin Shadow, and A Place To Bury Strangers.

This year’s first edition gathers a good number of interesting indie bands.  On May the 18th the line-up is as follows: Grimes, Howler, King Charles, Au Palais, Austra, WIM, CITIZENS!, Last Dinosaurs, Zulu Winter, Evian Christ, Trust, Oberhofer, Kassidy, Foe, and Breton.

And on May the 19th: Team Me, King Krule, Spector, Hooded Fang, Electric Guest, Theophilus London, Willis Earl Beal, Clock Opera, Porcelain Raft, The Big Sleep, Japandroids, DZ Deathrays, and China Rats.

AustraHighlights of the 18th promise to be Austra, the Canadian electronic band that some have described as a melodic version of Zola Jesus; Britons Zulu Winter with their shiny pop reminiscent (more or less) of Wild Beasts or Friendly Fires; and the indie retro tunes of Minneapolis’ Howler.

The 19th will be the day of Porcelain Raft and their uncomplicated and accessible tunes; Japandroids and their electricity; and the dreamy, epic and emotional pop from Clock Opera.

JapandroidsAnyway, the festival offers plenty of new bands to explore thus whatever recommendations we may make, all bands promise to catch the eye of the usual QRO reader.
