Big stars from yesteryear have a way of just dipping their toe in the pond of today by releasing EPs. They’re reminders of what made those stars shine, without asking listeners to swallow a whole new album. They’re a reason to tour where they can still focus on the golden oldies. Billy Idol has already done it once, last year with The Roadside EP (QRO review), and now comes The Cage EP.
Like the last release, Cage is just four songs, but showcases Idol well. The title track is big breakout rock, while the following “Running from the Ghost” is an epic run. “Rebel Like You” may never be his best “Rebel” song, but is a nice come-on, and “Miss Nobody” closes with a funkier kick-ass lady.
Like with other classic stars putting out EPs (such as Ringo Starr), enjoy The Cage EP for what it is, a taste of a late great that you still enjoy.
