Black Lips : Sing In a World That’s Falling Apart

More

Garage rock came and went about a decade ago, but the Black Lips are still around, doing their wild country-garage party. It’s always been better live than on record, but has varied from the less interesting to the more. Sing In a World That’s Falling Apart might not be groundbreaking, but it is a good time.

The Black Lips have been upping their twang in the last handful of years, going even more honky-tonk, and that comes through clear on Sing, such as the wry opener “Hooker Jon”, honky ode “Rumbler”, and the catchy “Odelia”. The band & the album are clearly at their best when having a blast, like on those pieces. There are also trots & gallops, sways and even pedal steel.

If the Black Lips don’t bring anything new on Sing In a World That’s Falling Apart, they do do what they do quite well. And that’s all one is really looking for them in this World.
