Black Kids : Live

<img src="http://www.qromag.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/blackkidslive.jpg" alt=" " />On a Monday night in May, Black Kids gave Boston college students one last party before they all went home for summer. ...

Playing in between Mobius Band and Cut Copy, the Jacksonville five-piece performed to the biggest crowd of the night and really got them going.

After recently signing to Columbia Records, the group has been touring to build up anticipation for the release of their debut album, Partie Traumatic and it was mission accomplished.  As they whipped out tunes that will be on that album and ones that  won't, each built momentum and certainly generated plenty of interest for their July release date.

Disco-rock and dance-punk were at their hippest and exploded with youthful energy from opening song "Hit the Heartbrakes" to the closer "Look at Me (When I Rock Wichoo)", which will also bookend Partie Traumatic.  In between, they squeezed in their most popular tracks to date, "Hurricane Jane" and "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You" with a slick male/female vocal interchange while lead singer/guitarist Reggie Youngblood really took ownership of the stage.  They threw in funk beats that could go all night and grooves that were simply effortless, making for a thoroughly solid performance.

As their live show indicates, things are definitely on an upward trajectory for the band, and they seem ready to take the summer festival schedule with an album that's sure to make waves.
