Brad Paisley ended his last world tour just weeks after it started, in March of 2020 in Canada. On Saturday, July 10th, Paisley returned triumphantly to the stage at iThink Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida, where twenty thousand of his biggest fans were there to welcome him. This marked the first major concert in South Florida since the arrival of COVID-19.
There was no talk of COVID-19 or the 38,000 deaths attributed to it. There were no temperature checks and very few masks. This was, for all intents and purposes, business as usual. The sense of normalcy was palpable as fans danced, drank, and socialized until late in the evening.
The packed house showed their enthusiasm by singing along to all the songs, both originals and covers including the brand new “City of Music”, “Purple Rain”and “Hot For Teacher”. The real crowd pleaser came for the encore when Paisley belted out the boozy “Alcohol”.
Whether the crowd noticed or not the effects of the touring hiatus were apparent to the media. Over the course of twenty-five songs Paisley seemed at times stiff and unsure of himself as opposed to his usual jovial, loose presence. Maybe it was due to a long layoff or maybe it was because this was only the second stop on the tour. Whichever it was the only people that noticed were the media as fans seemed oblivious to the difference.
Touring with Paisley are newcomers Jimmie Allen and Kameron Marlowe. To show his appreciation for the support Brad invited the new guys back on stage with him at separate times to play.
Hopefully, this marks the beginning of a long concert-filled Summer in both South Florida and nationwide. If this evening is any indication, we are in for a delightful touring season.
