We can’t make it back into the clubs, and even the most jaded of hipsters misses the dance floor right now. Coming to our rescue are veteran dance-punks !!!, with another set of hip-shaking bangers, Certified Heavy Kats EP.
At just over thirty minutes, Certified feels more like one single extended dance-jam, from the building opener “Do the Dial Tone” to the actually extended dance-jam closer “Walk It Off”. There might not be quite the can’t-miss singles or classic frontman Nic Offer (QRO interview) lines, but instead the whole album gets you going, and unlike a lot of dance music, particularly rewards on repeat listens, whether the darker thumper “Tighten the Grip” or the quieter, almost jazz following piece, “Let It Fall”.
While we can’t have Offer shaking his short-shorts in our face any time soon – their shows (QRO live review) are the opposite of social distancing – we can still be moved by the grooves of !!!.
