CHVRCHES : Love Is Dead

Though they have kind of the look of an alternative band (even hailing from Glasgow), CHVRCHES have really always been an electro-pop act, full of emotion, vocals, and synthesizers. That’s truer than ever on Love Is Dead, which hits both the highs and lows (or at least middles) of their style.

The highs are pretty clear in standouts such as big opener “Graffiti”, the more tragic (thanks to guest co-vocals from The National’s Matt Berninger) “My Enemy”, power-synth following “Forever”, and killer electro-dance pop “Graves”. However, not every song does as well, with more straightforward synth emotions on pieces such as “Get Out” and somewhat over-emoting to the likes of “Never Say Die”.

Even if every track can’t be top-notch, CHVRCHES do deliver their powerful electric emotion on Love Is Dead.
