Bingley Music Live 2012 Preview

Since 2007, Myrtle Park in north England’s town of Bingley has played host to Bingley Music Live, a diverse and interesting collection of acts local and from farther afield.  It returns to Myrtle Friday-Sunday, August 31st to September 2nd:

The Charlatans
Martha Reeves & The Vandellas

Bingley reaches back in time and across the pond for Motown legends Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, who began half a century ago.

DJ Fresh
The Pigeon Detectives

From just over in west Yorkshire, The Pigeon Detectives (QRO photos) made the leap to big-name headlining status a few years ago, and haven’t looked back.

The Pigeon Detectives
Delilah

Paloma Ayana Stoecker – a.k.a. Delilah – comes to Bingley fresh off work with Chase & Status and her debut From the Roots Up in June.

Space

Nineties alt-rockers Space were ahead of their time combined the sixties guitars with imaginative electronics – but they also worked with the one-and-only Tom Jones before breaking up in 2005.  Last year, two years after the death of drummer Andy Parle, the group reunited, and now come to Bingley.

The Jim Jones Revue

Bringing some ol’ fashioned rock ‘n’ roll to Bingley is London’s own Jim Jones Revue (QRO live review).

Sheffield rockers Black Spiders come to Bingley behind last year’s full-length debut, Sons of the North.

Black Spiders

The Lancashire Hotpots

From local Yorkshire lamb & mutton comes local favorites The Lancashire Hotpots (QRO photos at a festival).

The Lancashire Hotpots
King Charles

Almost like a king in his own right (besides the size of his hair), King Charles (QRO photos at a festival) makes glorious music with gritty croons, and clamoring chords with a boisterous melody of violins (QRO photos at a festival).  He already released his latest album, Loveblood, last month, and, he recently got off a leg of touring (QRO photos at a festival) as the supporting act to Mumford & Sons (QRO live review).

Main Stage

Nero (live)

Dubstep big-name Nero (QRO live review) does a full live set to close out Bingley Music Live (QRO photos at a festival).

Nero (live)
White Lies

After abandoning their early adolescent incarnation as Fear of Flying, west London’s White Lies (QRO spotlight on) exploded onto the U.K. scene with their tragic, neo-New Wave Death EP (QRO review) and chart-topping debut full-length, To Lose My Life (QRO review).  Fronted by the Anglo-handsome Harry McVeigh (QRO interview), White Lies also have an impressive live show (QRO live review), including killer lighting (QRO live review).  So catch the English favourites (QRO photos in Canada) as their tour sophomore release Ritual (QRO review), and such epic pieces as not just “Death” (QRO video), but also “Farewell To the Fairground” (QRO video), “Bigger Than Us” (QRO video), and more.

White Lies
Maverick Sabre

Irish-English Michael Sabre mixes R&B and folk as Maverick Sabre.

Maverick Sabre
Hard-Fi

Mixing post-punk with Clash-era punk, not to mention straight-up indie, Hard-Fi kick it, most recently with last year’s Killer Sounds, the follow-up to 2007’s Once Upon a Time In the West (QRO review).

Hard-Fi
Katzenjammer

Oslo’s Katzenjammer mix a maddening degree of styles (everything from pop to Balkan) and instruments, to the point where no one seemingly plays the same instrument twice – yet they’re playing twice at Bingley, as they also grace the Raise the Roof Stage (see below).

Katzenjammer
Clement Marfo & The Frontline

The very new Clement Marfo & The Frontline are already tipped as a rising star by the likes of MTV, thanks to their new and compelling grime/hip-hop/soul/rock hybrid.
