There are certain artists who have such a specific niche, but do it so well. If you don’t like that niche, you can safely move on, but they’re the best at it. This can be taken to extremes with the likes of Weird Al Yankovic or Jackass, but even more traditional niches can be filled, such as Flogging Molly’s signature brand of Celtic punk, exemplified on the new Anthem.
And yes, there are anthems on Anthem, Flogging Molly’s barroom uproar, pint glasses clinking & sloshing, right from the opening combo of “These Times Have Got Me Drinking” / “Tripping Up the Stairs”, though the best anthem is the following “A Song of Liberty”, which expands the Celtic call to all, in “unity.” There are also sad odes, most notably the closing lost “The Parting Wave”.
Not all pieces are as memorable, and the jaunty style can wear a bit thin, but if you like this, if you want this, you will be quite happy with Flogging Molly’s Anthem.
