Interpol : Marauder

More

Like so many of the great alt-rock bands to emerge at the start of this century/millennium, Interpol has had a rise/fall/rise, with beloved early material, a bad stint in the majors (Our Love To AdmireQRO review), and a return to strong form. By now, they have become able to deliver the Interpol that their fans want to hear. Marauder does that – but also more.

More

Yes, Marauder has the dark, new New Wave press that Interpol became known for, in songs like “The Rover”, with Daniel Kessler’s compelling and more intricate guitar work nicely complementing singer/guitarist Paul Banks’ baritone. But near the end of the record there is also some angular work that’s relatively new for the band in “Number 10” (yes, the tenth song on the album) and “Party’s Over”. There are two minute-long interludes, and the whole release says goodbye with the carrying “It Probably Matters”.

After reestablishing their sound, Interpol have now successfully grown it, without losing what they had in the first place.
