Julia Jacklin : PRE PLEASURE

There’s a certain brand of ‘sad girl pop’ that has become very popular these days, from the girls of boygenius onward, capturing the hearts of everyone and their niece. Bringing a particularly soft and intimate sound to the table is Julia Jacklin on her new album, PRE PLEASURE.

From the first notes of opener “Lydia Wears a Cross”, PRE is a quiet record (other than the more rocking “I Was Neon”), but powerful. The loss of “Less of a Stranger” and straight-faced wry nature to “Be Careful With Yourself” stand up to any sad girl pop songs out there today, touching your soul and bringing a tear to any eye.

‘Sad girl pop’ isn’t really that ‘pop’, but the media loves a new genre term, and it certainly is sad, and certainly played lovely by girls. So, sit down and have a good cry to PRE PLEASURE.
