J-Hope, 8:50 PM – 10:00 PM

There’s really been no bigger band in the world than South Korea’s BTS, so it’s no wonder that they’re gonna do like boy bands have done since The Beatles, and explore their solo opportunities. Jung Ho-seok, a.k.a. J-Hope, explores that on the big Bud Light Seltzer Stage at Lollapalooza.

J-Hope

The Kid Laroi, 7:15 PM – 8:15 PM

Charli XCX, 5:15 PM – 6:15 PM

Charlotte Aitchison, under the moniker Charli XCX (QRO photos at a festival), is one of Britain’s most elusive dark pop songstresses (QRO photos at a festival). Already after opening slots on big-name tours as well as festivals (QRO photos at a festival), not to mention co-writing the breakthrough song for Icona Pop, “I Love It”, she started to solidify her career as a pop songwriter to be reckoned with (QRO photos), with 2013 seeing her release her debut full-length, True Romance, and playing her own headlining gigs (QRO photos). In 2015 she achieved her own breakthrough single, “Break the Rules”, on sophomore full-length Sucker, along with 2019’s Charli, 2020’s made-in-six-COVID-weeks How I’m Feeling Now, and this year’s hit Crash, now coming back to Lollapalooza for a third time (QRO photos at ’17 LollapaloozaQRO photos at ’15 Lollapalooza).

DJO, 3:15 PM – 4:15 PM

Local Natives, 6:15 PM – 7:15 PM

Silver Lake’s Local Natives (QRO photos at a festival) have been riding the alt-country/folk wave, but seem to be doing it better than most, charting in 2010 with debut Gorilla Manor and 2012’s Hummingbird (QRO review), moving up to headliner tours (QRO live review), and well-received on the festival circuit (QRO photos at a festival), including old England (QRO photos at an English festival). They come back to Lollapalooza (QRO photos at a festival) for a fourth time, after 2016’s Sunlit Youth (QRO review) and 2019’s Violet Street (QRO review).

Green Day, 8:15 PM

Chicago welcomes one of the most successful punk bands ever, Green Day (QRO photos at a casino). Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool, and Mike Dirnt emerged out of the late eighties/early nineties Bay Area punk scene and burst onto the world with 1994’s Dookie and such earworm singles as “Longview”, “Welcome To Paradise”, and “When I Come Around”, bringing punk rock to the masses. Unlike many of their fellow early nineties alt-hits, Green Day (QRO live review) have stayed highly popular into the twenty-first century. They had their 2004 Bush era rock-opera American Idiot (that was later turned into an actual Tony-winning musical), 2009’s follow-up 21st Century Breakdown (QRO review), and even an honest-to-god triptych, ¡Uno! (QRO review), ¡Dos! (QRO review), and ¡Tré! (QRO review). They come to headline Lollapalooza for a third time (and there first was back in the fest’s touring nineties) behind 2016’s political Revolution Radio (QRO review) and 2020’s Father of All Motherfuckers (QRO review), not to mention last year’s massive ‘Hella Mega Tour’ (QRO live review) of actual baseball stadiums.

Green Day

Porno For Pyros, 6:15 PM – 7:15 PM

It’s a debated question whether, at this point, Perry Farrell (QRO solo album review) is best known for fronting Jane’s Addiction or founding Lollapalooza, but don’t forget about his great nineties post-Jane’s band, Porno For Pyros, who knew we’d make great “Pets”. The broke up back in the nineties (after playing two of that decades touring Lollapaloozas), but have reunited this year at – where else? – Lollapalooza.

Porno For Pyros

Måneskin, 4:15 PM – 5:15 PM

You may now know of Eurovision, but everyone else in the world does, and breaking through last year was the wild glam rock of Italy’s Måneskin, who now bring it across the Atlantic to Lollapalooza.
