You, QRO, and everyone you know have loved Matt Berninger for years as the singer for the amazing National. On October 2nd, he releases his first-ever solo album, Serpentine Prison, and in the run-up he’s released the album’s second single (after previously putting out the title track – QRO review), “Distant Axis”, a collaboration with fellow late aughts Brooklyn indie giants The Walkmen‘s Walter Martin (Berninger had recently Martin’s great “Quarantine Boogie (Loco)”). As tragic as anything he’s done, but with a touching restraint, it comes with a video done by none other than Matt’s brother Tom Berninger, who documented his own travels with his brother & The National brothers in the excellent documentary Mistaken For Strangers. So relax in your favorite chair and fall on your most distant axis.
