Mild Orange : Looking For Space

In these trying times, between sickness, war, and the implosion of democracy, we all need a chance to relax. Some places have it better than others, such as lovely New Zealand, isolated by an ocean from COVID, conflict, and even global warming, with an actually responsible government – plus a great indie-pop lineage. So, of course it’s from the real Middle Earth that comes Mild Orange and their relaxing Looking For Space.

Space is a chill record, easy on the ears and mood, not for banging in the club but smiling on a long drive. There’s the lovely, shiny sweet life of “The Time of Our Lives (Extended)”, and the higher, broader, more atmospheric “What’s Your Fire”. NYC alternative music fans of a certain age will hear the strains of Ambulance LTD in pieces such as “F.E.A.R” and “Oh Yeah”.

Mild Orange can get a little too relaxed on Looking For Space, such as the penultimate “Music.” and the washing finish “Photographics”, but these days, that’s a good problem to have these days.
