Mimicking Birds : EONSNate Lacy takes you on a journey that feels something akin to déjà vu with his songwriting. It’s as if he’s singing straight from a journal you didn’t know you’d written. The songs from Mimicking Birds’ sophomore album, Eons, paint pictures with words beautifully strung together, seemingly nonsensical, yet grounded in intrinsic understanding.

Lacy’s murmuring voice, layered delicately over ambient landscapes is like standing in absolute darkness with stars falling from the sky around you. It’s a comfort, a beam of light in which to find yourself in a chaotic universe.

It is said that some images are intrinsically more memorable than others. Lacy has meticulously layered such imagery over highly textured instrumentation throughout Eons with the help of producer Jeremy Sherrer. The trio, singer-songwriter Nate Lacy, bassist Adam Trachsel, and drummer Aaron Hanson have created ethereal soundscapesthat span countless layers without ever becoming cluttered.

Chris DeVille of Stereogum writes, “The gently trembling vocal here will resonate with fans of My Morning Jacket and Phosphorescent; it sounds like a beam of light against the band’s beautiful psych spirals.”

“Memorabilia” opens the album with sparse, lingering base and forlorn strumming of the guitar that swells into a slow rumbling like the beginning of a summer thunderstorm. The album moves fluidly between soft, dream-like space grounded with an acoustic backbone into swells of psychedelic spirals until “Owl Hoots”.

“Owl Hoots” begins with a deep drumming that lulls the listener before the pace quickens into an irregular explosion culminating with Lacy’s echoing cries of “eon.”

Aptly named Eons, Mimicking Birds spent four years crafting this timeless collection of songs. Lacy’s songwriting prowess shines through all ten tracks. Eons is truly a timeless gem.
