Moaning : Uneasy LaughterPost-punk new wave has had its own ups & downs, from its early eighties birth to early twenty-first century revival, but it just might be time for another rebirth. Today everybody’s got synthesizers, which post-punk was the first to embrace. These darker times call for darker new wave. And there are great contemporary acts putting out great new music in the style, like Los Angeles’ Moaning on Uneasy Laughter.

Uneasy introduces itself quite well in the powerful post-punk open “Ego”, followed by the dark dance new wave of “Make It Stop”. Moaning don’t just do one aspect of their sound well, but range across it, such as the more incisive “Running” and the bigger epic “What Separates Us”. Only the more swishing, removed closer “Say Something” relatively under-delivers.

We’re all stuck at home these days, and there should be music to self-isolate to in our bedroom like Moaning.
