Take the ‘gospel’ in Colossal Gospel for real — the Alabama-based band works hard to shake out the soul in the spare, folky compositions on their latest album Circles. Warm bass lines, light snare, acoustic twang, vocals layered one on top of another until an entire chorus dawns over the song. There’s a little bit of a Fleet Fox vibe here, but stripped down to the bare essentials a la Yellow Ostrich.

"Bitter Woman" makes a nice companion piece to "Bitter Man," don’t you think? Colossal Gospel reels it off like an old skool bluesman storytelling sequence — the battle of the sexes rages ever on…

Pick up the album over at the Bandcamp & say hi on Facebook. Cheers!
