Dpony. Whoah. I stumbled across their EP Gool via a shout-out tweet from Hooray For Earth. Makes sense. Both bands have a knack for straddling the rock/electronic fence. Gool digs deep into hardwired ambient sludge while still preserving the exoskeleton of a rock ensemble. Guitar, drums, bass, synth: everything’s there, but it’s been run through the laundry a few times. Think: Bleach-era Nirvana meets Kraftwerk, with a little Neu thrown in. Still processing the album, some of these sounds are huge – let me know what you think – I’d love to see this band live. Dpony has a full LP on the way, so Gool is just the tip of the iceberg.
