Is it possible to feel nostalgic about the "old sound" of a band that’s only been around a year or so? Girlfriends cut their teeth during the hurly-burly heyday of 2010 tape-rock. The cuts off the debut our very first cassette were rough, raw, and flooded with effortless shit-fi beauty. When the followup 7" Government Seizure arrived, QRO was surprised by the relative polish of the release. You still felt like you were hearing a band in your parent’s basement, but it felt like they had practiced about a week too long for the show. But that’s nit-picking when it comes to a band that’s racking up the rock n’ roll honors faster than they can be handed out in native Boston.

The new 7" Cave Kids drops in a few weeks. It’s a stellar return to rudeness for the three-piece garage ensemble. The approach is fiery, full of chutzpah, and as unflinchingly pop as your favorite Nirvana numbers. When you listen to Girlfriends, you feel like you’ve been dropped down the rock n’ roll elevator shaft: the whole history is passing before your eyes, it’s all good, and you better get your fill before you hit bottom. How’s that for punk urgency?

We’ve got the A-side streaming here & a video for the B-side below. Double trouble. Go stalk your favorite Girlfriends at Twitter, their site , and Facebook too — why the hell not?
