Dark folk visions leavened with a pinch of background optimism marks the latest album Dark Hours from Berlin-based musician Jacob Faurholt. Think: Le Days on sporadically-effective depression medication. The featured track below "Untitled" comes off as a good, but ordinary, stark folk ditty until about the 1:00 mark, when the supporting vocals spark up a sweet, blossoming harmony.

"Black Lake Lodge" follows a similar pattern, starting from even more spare construction. A strum here, a lyric there, a gentle banjo picking out a fractured tune. Voila: minimalism takes the day, served up with mood for miles.
